Members of the Putnam Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Enforcement Unit (NEU) say they developed information that a man was involved in the sale of methadone within the county in July of 2019.
NEU members allegedly made contact with the man, identified as Thomas Simmons, 39, of Dover Plains, and arranged for the purchase of Methadone. Simmons was taken into custody in the area of Danbury Road on Tuesday, July 9.
Simmons was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony, and third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance.
Simmons, who was also on New York State Parole for a previous drug conviction, had an outstanding parole warrant issued by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, NEU members say.
Simmons was remanded without bail to Putnam County Correctional Facility. The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision was notified, and a detainer was placed on Simmons.
Simmons’ passenger, Renee Whiteman, 28, of Wingdale was also found to be in possession of heroin and hypodermic needles, NEU members say.
Whiteman was arrested and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, and criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument.
Whiteman was remanded to Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $750 cash or $1,500 bond.
Simmons and Whitman are scheduled to appear in the Town of Southeast Court on Tuesday, August 6.
